Post Doctoral Fellow

DESCRIPTION:

The Post Doctoral Fellow will coordinate and conduct research on emerging aquatic animal health challenges as a component of the Fish Health and Nutrition Research Cluster of the CGIAR Research Program on FISH. S/he will involve in epidemiological research on emerging fish diseases and engaging international and national research teams in Bangladesh, Egypt, Malaysia and other WorldFish focal and scaling countries and partners to deliver high quality research on aquatic animal health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and conduct research on emerging aquatic animal health issues (e.g. TiLV) in WorldFish program and partner countries.
  • Design and implement epidemiological studies in WorldFish program countries to better understand aquatic animal health constraints, risk factors, economic and social impacts.
  • Support development of interventions such as better management practices for minimizing the impact of aquatic animal diseases.
  • Support the design and implementation of robust biosecurity programs for WorldFish genetics and breeding platforms in Malaysia, Egypt and Bangladesh.
  • Support design and conduct of experimental infection studies in connection with genetics and disease resistance research.
  • Ensure regular coordination with national partners in WorldFish focal and scaling countries and support development and implementation of a practical national strategies on aquatic animal health.
  • To provide support to national research teams in Bangladesh, Egypt and Malaysia and other WorldFish program countries to design implement and deliver high quality science.
  • To develop evidence based tools, guidelines, policy briefs, fact sheets and quality science based products to support aquatic animal health management.
  • To conduct literature reviews, analyse project reports, organize workshops and consult with WorldFish global and country teams for project concepts, networking and partnership building.
  • Prepare scientific publications, working papers, program briefs and other research products in support of FISH CRP health research.

REQUIREMENTS

Skills and Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in related field (aquatic animal health, epidemiology, etc).
  • 3 years related research experience and excellent knowledge, technical and writing skills in aquaculture and aquatic animal health and demonstrated ability to perform critical thinking on research issues.
  • Experience in conventional and molecular diagnostics and fish immunology.
  • Knowledge of aquatic epidemiology (experience in the use of epidemiology models and software for statistical analyses) and socio-economic impact assessments.
  • Experience in synthesizing results from disparate studies and publishing research findings.
  • Strong commitment to work on research with implications for FISH CRP and development outcomes and impact.
  • Fully familiar with state of the art computer programs and other software for data capture, storage, retrieval and analyses of data.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and able to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in graduate student supervision.
  • Publications and resource mobilization track record.
  • Experience with the private sector and international organizations.
  • Relevant working experience in developing countries and experiences with modelling, epidemiology, disease diagnostics.
  • Knowledge in “big data” applications and tools for disease surveillance and diagnostics.

Salary and Benefits
This is an Internationally Recruited Staff (IRS) position with annual salary ranging between USD 42,000 – USD 46,000 per annum.
WorldFish's IRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) housing allowance*, relocation and repatriation assistance*, dependent education allowance*, home leave entitlement*, comprehensive insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension/provident fund contribution.

Time frame and location
This position will be based at WorldFish’s HQ in Penang, Malaysia with significant travel to various countries in Africa, Asia and Pacific. Interviews are expected to be held in July 2017.
The successful candidate should be available to commence latest by October 2017 for an initial 2 years contract, with possibility of extension depending on performance of and the availability of funding. A: Biólogos Pesqueros y/o Marinos, Ingeniero Pesquero, Oceanólogo y en general a otros profesionistas de carreras a fines a esta actividad pesquera. (Titulados o pasantes) interesados en participar como "OBSERVADOR CIENTÍFICO" a bordo de las mebarcaciones tiburoneras del Oc. Pacífico que se impartirán del 10 al 14 de julio del presente año (2017), en: 1) Auditorio del CRIP Ensenada y/o 2) Auditorio CRIP Mazatlán (Centro Regional de Investigación Pesquera) del Instituto Nacional de Pesca.



La solicitud (por escrito) deberá ir acompañada de los documentos siguientes:



1.- Copia del acta de nacimiento (edad máxima 30 años)

2.- Certificado Médico

3.- Constancia de Título, o Carta de Pasante

4.- Curriculum Vitae

Además de contar con un seguro de Gastos Médicos MAyores y Seguro de Vida.
